Hi dear colleagues. I am a level 1 Trados User. I have been working for the last week on a large project which came as a project package from the PM and when saving my bilingual files and sometimes even when confirming the translation, this message appears:
"Exception of type "System.OutofMemoryException".

Could anybody share with me why this happens, what are the implications and risks? What should I do about it?

Now, another doubt came up: when needing SDL support, I logged into their site and couldn't find how to ask for support. Do they have something like technical support for users? Do I have to buy my access to online technical support in addition to my license?

Thank you all in advance.

I use a Windows 7 Ultimate computer with 8 GB of RAM, and sometimes I get this error.

On the other hand, it may happen that some of programs you closed did not freed RAM memory.

Another approach: when creating a new project, try to add files to be translated as one by one, not a complete folder.

Finally, if nothing of this solves the problem, try to split the file to be translated, if possible.

Lots of frustration Sep 1, 2011

Hi Berenice,

While I can't offer any definitive solutions, I can at least sympathize. I've recently been plagued with System Out of Memory issues when working with certain large files, and while SDL Support has been actively trying to help me figure out what to do, I haven't been able to solve the issue.

Hi Berenice,

One suggestion I got from SDL was to lower the maximum embedded file size, but there are some limitations to this approach, especially if you're not in charge of the entire translation cycle, as explained by Sébastien Desautel in this blog entry:

http://studiotroubleshooting.blogspot.com/2011/04/sdlxliff-filetype-options-embedded-or.html

I originally had 8 GB of RAM and went and increased it to 14 GB, and you know what? It made no difference. The error still happens, very frustratingly when I'm close to the end of project preparation.

So, again, I can't really help much but I can sympathize.

This is what I did... Jul 10, 2021

HI. I just had the same problem with my Trados and I had a big pptx that my Trados refused to save. So I have created a copy of the original pptx file and split the file in three, actually I created three new pptx files and copied a third of the content in each of them and then created a Trados project and put the three files in the same project with TM... and it worked like a charm.

In case that would not have worked I intended to create three projects, one for each pptx file and it would have worked anyway. This is another solution for working with big files. When I will finish I will paste the content of all three files together in the original file and everything will be just fine. So far it is saving my project without any problems.

I have a lot of RAM but i do not know why this time Trados thought the file was too big for it. Anyway, if you try this, it will work. Good luck!
