The problem is that lactic acid (mjölksyra ) accumulates in the muscles and this may cause them to hurt (see example 1 for lactic acid accumulation.
I think 'maximum heart rate (MHR)' is the closest equivalent of the Swedish word 'maxpuls'. See example 2, where the abbreviation of the English term is used in a Swedish text.

Explanation:
The source text sounds a little strange. Massageable muscles that got tired from maximum heart rate? I'd rather say that they got tired from hard work. I doubt they a giving heart massage :-)
