peak (travel time) Explanation: I've used this one ... Had the help of a professor consulting on work for my client -- he was a good teacher. You can find some wiki pages for reference. See http://www.scb.se/statistik/_publikationer/BE0401_2012I60_BR... -- for puckel and, for their translation. http://www.scb.se/statistik/_publikationer/BE0401_2012I60_BR... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 8 hrs (2013-06-30 17:51:18 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Yep, that simple in this case -- and it is a statistical term ;-)!! |

"black swan" / worst case Explanation: It depends on what you mean! The first answer assumes that it's an unpredictably long travel time e.g due to a motorway pileup that backs up all the traffic. So this value is a very unlikely one drawn from the tail of the travel time distribution (and NOT the peak, unless you're talking about CDF rather than PDF). That's different from a predictably long travel time e.g due to you travelling at rush hour - which is the second answer "worst case". Reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_swan_theory |
