Swedish term or phrase: realprovet
Appears on a Finnish 'studentexamensbetyg'. I have found the following definition on the Net:

Obligatoriska ämnen i studentexamen skall vara modersmålet, det andra inhemska språket, det första främmande språket samt realprovet och matematik. I realprovet skall man skriva minst två ämnen.

I this case 'realprovet' comprises religion, biology and psychology.

But that still doesn't tell me what it is in English. Can anyone help?

realprovet
Explanation:
The only option might be to leave it untranslated and translate the specific subjects covered (religion, biology and psychology).

"Realprovet" er sammensatt av ulike oppgaver fra en rekke ulike emner som: religion, psykologi, filosofi, historie, samfunnslære, fysikk, kjemi, biologi og geografi. Eksaminanden kan selv velge hvilke oppgaver han/hun vil besvare."

Maybe \"Elective subjects exam\" or \"general subjects exam\" could work.

Explanation:
As far as I know, the word 'real' usually refers to science subjects in an educational context - 'realfag'for example.

Secondary-school level qualification

Explanation:
I'd also be tempted not to translate it, but provide a bracketed explanation that it covers passes in Religion, Biology and Psychology at a level equivalent to (lower?) secondary-school level. (GCSE or O'level pass).

Translating even the concept of Scandinavian secondary education, particularly upper-secondary, to an English context is a nightmare - in Sweden the concept has been to study lots of studies at a relatively basic level. Compare that to three subjects studied intensively over two years, which is what A'levels usually are...
