capable of being developed / suitable for development Explanation: While there is no doubt that the word "developable" is a perfectly correct and valid English word, attested by all the dictionaries, it does rather grate on my perhaps over-sensitive English ear, mainly because of the physical contortions required of the lips and tongue to pronounce it properly without an explosion of popping sounds. I might use it in a technical document where style matters not, but in anything else I would prefer the somewhat clumsy circumlocutions above, which to me at least have the virtue of sounding more natural and pronounceable. But it's just a suggestion. |
