I think they have just taken a long winded route to saying that the thickness of their sections was.....

Six-micron serial **sections were cut** and stained using routine histologic procedures with a trichrome stain of fast green, hematoxylin, and safranin O.

Just been thinking more about this. What they are saying is that each section that they take moves 30 (units not clear) further (or deeper) into the piece of tissue. Most authors would simply say that they took sections of xx microns. The rest is obvious to the reader. For this reason I\'ve suggested the above.

OK, as in the other question recently \'agreed\' with I should make this clearer. Deeper incision indicates one incision or cut. They are talking about a series of sections that take you progressively deeper into the tissue, hence \"Cada linea de corte\" - cada being the important word here.

Again, I am not directing this at you Rowan but I wonder what surety the person who recently \'agreed\' really has. I am sure about what I am saying here because I myself have spent many years doing exactly the thing that they are talking about.

In this context, I think "avance en profundidad" refers to a deeper cut or incision. Literally, it's a sort of advance in the cut's depth.

agree  Rowan Morrell: Just to continue a little from my comments to your "líneas de corte" answer: I think the fact that you have won the points in each case shows that a discerning asker can see beyond the "agrees" to a less suitable answer. Once more, justice has been done.
