Hello

I am now proofreading my 14000 word translation on the subject of the performance of different dressings on heel pressure ulcers and would like some help with this phrase. I am unable to reach an elegant solution here.

Here is the context:

Thank you!

may work against us / may not be such good value for money
Explanation:
My immediate reaction. I imagine you've already thought of this and aren't happy for some reason, but here it is fwiw!

The second option is more a matter of extrapolation because I get the impression it's the money angle that is being studied...

May actually count against them ....

I think what is throwing me is "en nuestra contra" - surely it is actually against the dressings themselves insofar as they lose ranking points...

But I still feel rather inclined towards my second suggestion.

I believe this works fairly well.
The cheaper measures may turn out to be counterproductive.

the measures which initially seem the cheapest may turn out not to be so when assessing their efficacy and analysing their cost based on......

This is how I would say it.

This is a money issue, one spend more money then it would be required when the initial concern was to save.

May work against us.

Thank you!
Notes to answerer
Asker: This works well!! I had put "may have gone against us"...I have to put most of this translation in the past tense although it is written in the present (another proverbial nightmare).

Asker: hi, the writers in this experimental study actually demonstrated/prove that the more expensive dressing is more effective and more beneficial to the patient in reducing pressure and therefore healing pressure ulcers:)

agree  Neil Ashby: I think simply 'could work against us' is truer to the ST which, afterall, is not in the subjunctive.
