a function/relation dependent on Explanation: The concept of "dependencia" in mathematical terms is very far from relation. A relation is an an association between ordered pairs of objects. A relation itself can depend on something. Dependency, for a variable, means that the latter has values determined by one or more independent variables; for a function/relation the definition is a bit more complicated and I would have to become more specific, which is not appropriate in our situation. I assume that in this text you found a "relation" or a "function" that links two entities and which depends on time intervals. You will have to asses if it is a relation or a function. A relation is a mere association between two sets of objects (eg. the relation that links every parent with its kids). A function is a "special" tipe of relation in which every element belonging to the first set of objects has only ONE possible association with an element of the second one. (eg. the function that associates a sepcific person with its nose). I do not know if I am being clear enough, if it turns out to be too complicated please feel free to contact me and I will be happy to help you with the "relation/function" choice. Best, Milena |

relation Explanation: The meaning of "dependencia" is "relación". http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Relation_(mathematics) -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2010-05-01 12:03:59 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- "dependencia" is a general term, so that is why I've suggested "relation" for the translation, a general term too. But, of course, considering further context, you can tune the idea and say something like: "As it can be noticed, a relation between X and Y (dependent on X and Y) has been determined in accordance with the time interval considered." -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2010-05-01 12:20:14 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Relation_(mathematics) |

dependence relation Explanation: In the original,"dependencia" is short for "relación de dependencia". As luck will have it, the literal "dependence relation" is proper English and has the same meaning. |
