estoy confundida con respecto al us de esta palabra, las definiciones de wordreference son:

Municipio: m. División administrativa menor de un estado

Conjunto de habitantes de un mismo término jurisdiccional regido por un ayuntamiento:

Organismo que administra dicho término,más el alcalde y los concejales que lo dirigen.

En ingles las dos posibilidades que encontre son:
a)municipality, cuando se refiere al territorio; y
B)town o city council cuando es la oficina, ayuntamiento, concejo...

ahora bine mi duda esta en el siguiente contexto:

"A lo largo del año 2006 y lo que va de 2007 los municipios de las cinco capitales andinas se han sumergido en una iniciativa conjunta de intercambio de experiencias en reducción de riesgos "

" La reflexión conjunta ha permitido generar propuestas de orientaciones de política para la incorporación de la reducción del riesgo en la dinámica de las municipalidades"

Municipality funcionaria en este contexto, o necesito poner algo como municipal authorities o City Hall incluso (hay otras partes del documento donde dice alcaldias, para lo que use City Hall o municipal authorities)

Explanation:
I am not sure if it is the same in US English. But as far as I know, in British English municipality means the area covered by a certain council, the physical area, while the council is the governing body.
In the case of Claudia´s text I understand it is the local councils meeting to decide the actions to take for this Health & Safety operation. If the text is targeted to a British audience I would rather use council, but as I said public service vocabulary may be different in the US.

Asker: Thnak you Lidia, in fact the text is aimed at an European audience, not only British, so perhaps i should use a more standard term such s municipality? Thank you for your answer anyhow!
