In fact, it would be more usual to say "what we do and why we do it" (Google for examples), but in this case there is a specific emphasis on the goal (the what for), whereas "why" can include (or doesn't specifically exclude) motives etc.

In contemporary US English, this is common, and may be a good alternative to "the why's and wherefore's" (which, at least in the US, may not be as common now as it might have been in the past, and may still be in the UK and other countries [native and non-native alike).
