Agent vs. pathogen 21:19 Oct 26, 2009
Both "contagious agent" and "contagious pathogen" are used in biomedicine (31,900 hits for "contagious agent" vs. 8,100 for "contagious pathogen"). They mean the same thing. I translated/edited several monographs that used the term "contagious agent" relentlessly. These projects had contributions from authors writing in Spanish that required translation plus ones by specialist authors writing in English on the same subject, the best way to confirm terminology.
