I have a number of instances where intendencia appears in the same context:

Supervisory? admnistrative?

Also in this case would it be provincial, supervisory level; or provincial and supervisory level (one thing or two)

disagree  William Wilson: I don't know about Argentina, but on Colombian birth certificates, there is a distinction, because your choices are: Municipio y Departamento, Intendencia o Comisaría. Perhaps "province" would better suffice.
