one-man crews, single-person crews Explanation: The latter would, of course, be more politically correct :-), but I think the former is more common: Clearing trees from an intact line and testing the circuit requires only one, and it is therefore more efficient for us to specialize our crews, sending out two crews of one man each to handle clearing tasks only. These one-man crews report back the more serious jobs to the dispatcher, who assigns a two-man crew or more (http://www.emec.com/priority.htm) When you talked about one man crews I did not think it would work for me. After two weeks of thinking, I talked to two of my head installers about working by themselves. They said they would try it and see how it went. They have done two jobs each and saved a total of “68” man hours on the four jobs. (http://www.bdrco.com/classes/labormanagement.html) In a letter in the October 15 Courier-Mail, ETU organiser Peter Simpson wrote: “Apparently the Energex managers had their noses in the trough while our union was representing their workers battling for a 4% pay rise, resisting branch closures, fighting against redundancies, trying to prevent the implementation of single-person crews and trying to address appalling conditions for sub-contractors (http://jinx.sistm.unsw.edu.au/~greenlft/1999/381/381p4d.htm) Hope it helps.
