Spanish term or phrase: vales de despensa / vales de comida
Context: I am translating a list of benefits given to a Mexican sales executive.
Two items seem to me to be the same thing, but they obviously are not in
Mexico. Vales de despensa, which apparently are food vouchers given to be
used at grocery stores and vales de comida. What is the difference?

grocery coupons / food coupons or luncheon vouchers
Explanation:
In the USA, I think they tend to call the "vales de despensa"-> "grocery coupons". The "luncheon voucher" (vale de comida) used to be a thing in the UK, but I'm not sure how widely used it was elsewhere.
Most grocery coupons are issued by manufacturers, not the stores. If we are talking about government/state issued coupons, "voucher" may be a more suitable choice in some areas.

vale de comida = meal voucher
A meal voucher or luncheon voucher is a voucher for a meal given to employees as an employee benefit, allowing them to eat at outside restaurants, typically for lunch. In many countries, meal vouchers have had favorable tax treatment. Vouchers are typically in the form of paper tickets.

Diferencias

"El Ticket Restaurante es nuestro producto más importante a nivel global, sin embargo, en México se ha desarrollado más el vale de despensa. ***La diferencia es que la despensa está más orientada para la familia y el de restaurante al trabajador y la empresa***, porque para la compañía se traduce en productividad", explicó el responsable de Edenred en México.

agree  Yvonne Gallagher: I think "coupon" or "voucher" is better than "allowance" which would be related to taxes

agree  Robert Carter: With Gallagy. Also, "grocery" is better than "food", as you can use "vales de despensa" for other household items, not just food.
