Is there an equivalent term to this in English?

It is making reference to the fact that if an employee takes sick leave, for 3 days neither social security nor the company pays for these.

Cuando un empleado se pone enfermo el salario lo paga tanto la empresa como la seguridad social, y según el modo establecido en el art.120 de la Ley General de la Seguridad Social.

Del día 1º al 3º de la baja no paga nadie (estos son conocidos como “días de purga”)

Under the SSP scheme a person has to be ill for at least four or more days in a row - a Period of Incapacity for Work (PIW) - before payment of SSP can be considered. Also, remember that if the first period of sickness absence is greater than four days in a row and it does not link to a previous PIW, the usual three waiting days will apply. Waiting days are discussed later.
