Término o frase en español: AMPAS (asociaciones de madres y padres de alumnos)
SPAIN. The first thing that springs to mind is PTA, but I think that stands for Parents' and Teachers' Association. Some suggestions for both the acronym and the full form would be interesting.

Explicación:
My solution in cases like this is not to "mushroom" into UK or US English etc. but to keep the source text and provide an explanatory translation in brackets. If the term repeats further on in the text perhaps just use "AMPAS" on its own.

Since there is no mention of teachers in the Spanish original, Parents' Association will do just fine. Thanks to everyone for helping out on this one.

Usuario que pregunta: Yes, I'm leaving AMPAS intact on the two occasions it appears. If the authors want to use an English acronym, that's fine too.

parents' association

Explicación:
Parents'association is more commonly used than PTA in the UK these days. Both would be fine here, but I would favour the former.

Usuario que pregunta: PTA seems very USA to me, probably because of the song Harper Valley PTA. Parent's Association will do nicely.

Coincido  Sonia García: If the use of acronyms is not required, then this would also be my choice. Simple is best, and this can be understood and used in any country.

Reference: Article with different acronyms: PTA, PTO, PCC, PTG, HSA

Reference information:
I don't think you can use the acronym PTA unless the association is actually affiliated to the national PTA UK or PTA US. PTO would be a more general acronym. AMPAS also work with teachers, so PTO may work. If you don't need to use an acronym, then you could simply call it parents' association.
I came across this article with different acronyms, hopefully you may find it useful:

@ Sonia Garcia:
After seeing your reference comment, but in respecting your opinion, I did not want to comment directly on your posting, which in any event is a reference rather than a definitive answer. However, I am not sure why you say, "I don't think you can use the acronym PTA unless the association is actually affiliated to the national PTA UK or PTA US", because that is not quite accurate, and in my country for instance, PTAs are a part of our system, perhaps given the fact that our system of education is based on the UK model (perhaps?), but we do have a vibrant PTA system here, and all falling under the purview of a National Parent-Teachers Association comprised of many schools and split into zones/regions: https://www.iriefm.net/tag/national-parent-teacher-associati... Hope this helps. Stay safe!
