En el mundo, las especies arbóreas del género se encuentran desde el paralelo 38ºS en Argentina, y *avanzan por una franja por el oeste* en Chile, Bolivia, Perú, llegando hasta Centroamérica y el sur de Estados Unidos. También se encuentran especies en Paraguay, y con escasa presencia en el oeste de Uruguay y sur de Brasil. Existen especies autóctonas en la India, Pakistán y noroeste de África.
