biothermal range / temperature tolerance Explanation: As I refreshed the page before giving my answer, I can see that Dr Andrew Franlland ahs been researching along similar lines to myself. Firstly, there are no hits for your term in Spanish in singular or plural apart from this question (as far as I can gather). Therefore, we can assume it is not common. This could mean it is incorrect or new or ... As you have bee told above, there is one hit for this: http://links.jstor.org/sici?sici=0006-3185(196104)120:2<255:... This hit also talks about temperature tolerance of the species, which I suspect (but do not know for sure) is what they are actually driving at here. If in doubt ask client! -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2007-11-22 11:47:16 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- sorry, Frankland has (a bit tired today!) |

cold-hardiness Explanation: "Hardiness of plants is a term used to describe their ability to survive adverse growing conditions. It is usually limited to discussions of climatic adversity. Thus a plant's ability to tolerate cold, heat, drought, or wind are typically considered measurements of hardiness. In temperate latitudes, the term is most often used to describe resistance to cold, or ***cold-hardiness*** and generally measured by the lowest temperatures that a plant can withstand." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hardiness_(plants) I also did a google search using "cold-hardiness" and "black walnut" together and got over 700 results: http://www.google.com./search?hl=en&q="cold-hardiness" "blac... I used to garden a lot when I was younger, and I remember hearing the term "cold-hardiness" quite a bit. |
