I can't find this definition isolated here on Proz.com. The definition below is from a Costa Rican Notarial Codigo. Would this just be as simple as Notarial Act?

Artículo 101°.- Definición
Las actas notariales son instrumentos públicos cuyas finalidades principales son comprobar, por medio del notario y a solicitud de parte interesada, hechos, sucesos o situaciones que le consten u ocurran en su presencia, darles carácter de auténticos, o bien hacer constar notificaciones, prevenciones o intimaciones procedentes según la ley.
A las actas notariales les serán aplicables, en lo pertinente, las disposiciones de las escrituras públicas, con las salvedades resultantes de este capítulo.

Asker: Thanks - I thought it was alluding to that but I wasn't sure. Clearly I need to brush up on my legal knowledge.

The foregoing was underscored at an ATA (American Translators Association) Legal Translation Conference presentation on commonly mistranslated notarial terminology: "Escritura pública: Notarially recorded instrument or document. Described as the "mother" of all documents. Kept in the notarial record book and never taken out. Not the same as a deed, which is an instrument that conveys land."

“Notarial certificate and “certificate” means the part of, or attachment to a notarized document that is completed by the notary, bears the notary’s signature and seal and states the facts attested by the notary in a particular notarization.
