Spanish term or phrase: curso anual
I'm translating the draft of a course syllabus for a two-semester course. Here's how it starts out:

Primera (segunda) parte de un **curso anual** diseñado para cumplir con el requisito de Ciencias Sociales del componente de Educación General de [name of university].

The course is "Fundamentals of the Social Sciences," and is a required course. My question about "curso anual" is this: Does this refer to the fact that it requires a year--two semesters--or does it mean that it is offered every year (analogous to "annual plants" that are planted every year)?

In other words, do I translate this as:

"Part 1 (Part 2) of a two-semester course"

or as:

"Part 1 (Part 2) of a course offered annually"?

Or do I cop out and write "an annual course"?

I can ask the client, but first I have to meet the deadline--which is about 3 hours away. If possible, I'd like to get it right the first time.

Thanks in advance.

annual course
Explanation:
The distinction is made because some courses are not offered every year. Being mandatory, it has to be offered even if quorum is low

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thank you, Dariusz, for your interest and your time. I didn't name the university, but Lydia obviously recognized it, and she's right--so I think the idea of an "every-year" course is the point of this expression, even though you're right, it is a year-long course. Thanks again and regards from Puerto Rico.
