a boyfriend, an old boyfriend, or a young "bullfriend"...

this second is assuming the original spanish play on words is about the age of the male partner, as "novillo" is a young bull...

Explanation:
a novio is a boyfriend, but a noviazo y ever more of one, and a novillo is young immature bull, rather like a young wild buck. As the 3 terms in Spanish all begin with n, it is good to find something similar in English, such as the b for beau, boyfriend and buck.
