agree  Neil Ashby: But not 'zwitterion', the word is not exactly synonymous. A zwitterion has already been placed in a strong acid or base solution and become a + or - ion itself. An ampholyte is synonymous with zwitterionic compound. I hold a PhD in physical chemistry, ;)
