Spanish term or phrase: apunte documental
From another caption:

documentary contribution/record
Explanation:
Apunte can also indicate "record", "entry", and if taken a little further, also "contribution". In this case it is a documentary contribution/record made by the author. If the image is a photo, it would make sense to use one of these terms or something similar, once sketch and note are ruled out. Just a suggestion, hope it might help in some way. -:)

Notes to answerer
Asker: I thought of that, too, but doesn't it seem odd for an image?

Asker: I'd thought of sketch, but I've got a pdf of the original book, and it's photo taken by the author. (I'd forgotten I had the images when I posted the question -- sorry!)

documentary sketch

Explanation:
Are you sure it's a photo? Could it be a sketch that is very well done? According to the RAE, apunte can mean "Dibujo tomado del natural rápidamente." That would be appropriate here.
