Explanation:
A sappy joke isn't at all the same as a chiste verde: really , it means a silly joke. But the term is kind of plant related (sap). Whatever, here's a link to what is specifically referred to as a sappy joke...

Explanation:
This is going to be a tough call, I reckon. Sometimes puns just don´t translate, and a rewrite is called for.

"Dirty/mucky" jokes, soil related rather than plant related but can´t think of anything closer at the moment.
