Me ha surgido de repente la duda sobre qué será más correcto (o más usual) "American companies" or "North American companies", cuando por el contexto claramente nos referimos a compañias norteamericanas, COMO EN EL CASO QUE NOS OCUPA. En español se suele emplear "compañias americanas" sin necesidad de especificar que no nos estamos refiriendo a compañías "latino-americanas", a no ser que sea estríctamente necesario.

El termino aparece en el siguiente párrafo:

"Las principales compañías americanas llevan años utilizando estas técnicas y los crecimientos se han dejado notar."

Lo que no tengo claro es si con "norteamericanas" te refieres a toda América del Norte o sólo a EEUU. La respuesta, en función de esa duda.

The standard way to refer to a citizen of the United States is as an American. Though United States is the formal adjective, American and U.S. are the most common adjectives used to refer to the country ("American values," "U.S. forces"). American is rarely used in English to refer to people not connected to the United States.[12]
