Science - Science (general) / Knowledge Management research
Japanese term or phrase: 学術文献
On alc.co.jp this translates as 'professional literature' - are there any other acceptable phrases? This doesn't seem to fit with my source material.

Could I say research literature or similar? The readers of the 学術文献 are members of a research laboratory. I don't know what they are researching.

literature/the literature
Explanation:
I would personally use "literature" or "the literature", and consider adding "academic" or "scientific" etc. depending on the case. I mean if it is a paper about a scientific topic then I would avoid stating SCIENTIFIC literature because it should be obvious to the reader. However, if my paper is say about engineering but considers work that is generally outside the field, then I would specify the different field.

Some examples from the net:
Literature on Payment Systems (PS) in health reviews theory and evidence on the impact of different PS on providers.

Review of the literature shows that some authors have found an inhibition by fluoride of various steps of thyroid hormone biosynthesis in animal experiments.

学術文献
bibliography, the literature

Explanation:
You didn't provide the context, but in research papers the "professional" bit is superfluous.

学術文献
Scientific references

Explanation:
What about "scientific references/literature"? It sounds good.
Example:
画像と解説は学術文献の参考とはなりません。
The image and its caption should not be referenced in the scientific literature.

学術文献
academic literature/document

Explanation:
according Kenkyusha Online Dictionary, 学術論文 is "academic essay" (paper) and 文献 is "literature; documentary records; documents." Since 学術 can include Arts, I think "academic" is more suitable than "scientific"
