neutral  RieM: 間違っているとは思わないのですが、ここはwhat I am よりも who I am の方が適切だと感じます。私だけがそう思う...//こう思ったきっかけは、重罪で服役している息子のことを「I love him no matter what he is or becomes.」と言った母親がいたからなんですが、それで「かくあらしめる」の意味を考えすぎたのかもしれません。わかりました。

agree  KathyT: Rie-san has a good point, but actually, "what I am" is perfect here. It's a reference to "what" the person has become. Eg. "made me a great educator/doctor/politician," or conversely, "made me a welfare-dependent junkie," etc.!! :-)
