Can anyone explain this to me in English?
I have vague idea that it is some processing done for a price.

Sentence and context:
最初に，車体架設メーカーから説明しておく。B-3とB-5は，ＥＭで製造された車台を自工場に搬送して，バスボディーを組み付け，塗装をした後にＥＭへ納品する。

This is an article about automobile body manufactures in India. B-3 and B-5 are two sample companies. EM is a vehicle manufacturer. B-3 and B-5 receive orders from EM for auto bodies.

I think we often hear 賃加工費 which refers to the cost of piece processing. But I'm not so sure of why they call it 賃加工 as 賃 there literally means just "pay" or "labor cost" definitely. 賃加工 would also mean "piecework", from which I guess it has certain association with a unit contract work or process, which, if it is, characterizes the contract business in general. Maybe someone familiar with this sort of situation may convince us.

I found the following explanation in a page describing the manufacture in the Oita prefectre:

他の業者の所有に属する原材料に加工処理を行って加工賃を受取る賃加工業は大分類Ｆ−製造業に分類され，直接個々の家庭消費者（個人経営の農林漁家を含む）から原材料を支給されて賃加工を行う事業所が本分類に含まれる。

In the above, they say there are two types of processing institutions in the 賃加工 industry; one is to process raw material provided by direct consumers and the other is to process raw material possessed by another business. In either case, we assume both of these types are subcontractors of processing raw material and receive processing fees from their outsourcers.

Maybe, the background is as Mr.Baranowski describes. As to its translation, if it refers to the business process in the context, I still guess it may just be put as ¥"piece processing¥", but depends on the context and hot it is used. -

I think this refers to processing work outsourced to a subcontractor where all parts/materials, designs, and specifications are provided by the principal. The subcontractor only executes the job as instructed.

PS. I believe the 賃 element is a reminder that an external labor contract exists. 加工費 is more commonly used for cost incurred in internal processes.
