(this) city's cops Explanation: I don’t know the storyline, but I think your line “おいいい加減にしろ!天下の桜田門が捜査できるかってんだ” is said in irony. (Like, actually, the metropolitan police really can’t do a proper investigation because they’re either inept, or they can’t for other reasons.) - Hey, knock it off! You think this city's cops can really investigate this? - Yo, enuff already! This city's cops can’t find anything out about this. 1) 天下 is defined as: the whole country; the public; the world; the ruling power; having one’s own way. But, since we’re talking about 警視庁, I’ve put "city's" cops. Tokyo is a gigantic city, it's like a whole world onto itself. 2) 桜田門は警視庁 (see blogs below) 3) 警視庁 is defined as: (東京・ロンドンの) The Metropolitan Police Department --- Here are a few blogs about桜田門: http://keyword.blogmura.com/key00020842.html 40 :名無番長:2009/09/29(火) 21:43:33 O 桜田門は警視庁 119 :名無番長:2009/09/30(水) 08:11:14 O 頑張れ桜田門!

the holy Metropolitan Police Explanation: It all depends on the context, but at a first glance, I took "天下の桜田門" as the object, not the subject. The subject should be we or I then. Like, "Give me a break! No way that we could investigate the holy Metropolitan Police!". I assume they are policemen at a much lower rank. |
