Literally, it's private culture schools. Is this a valid description of this type of school? I've googled for information, but could't find a good English equivalent.

There are a lot of ways that this could be translated. Looking at the URL below, you can see that a lot of different types of classes are offered at least at one site. I'm tempted to suggest something like "extended adult education center" because so many universities in the US have extension learning or ongoing adult education classes, but it looks like children could attend these as well. Although the word "culture" broadly covers items like computers, sports, and go (since all of these things are a part of the culture), the word "culture" does not well convey the image of what is being offered. One last note: for schools, the American word "private" means "public" in the UK and vice-versa. I do not know if that applies in this case, but this should be considered based on who the target audience is.

I think this is the answer that best captures the meaning of the word in English. Because these schools offer many types of lifelong learning classes, from computer literacy to traditional things like flower arranging, education center or adult learning center would be best. The reason why I posted this question was because "culture school" brings up a whole different set of images for native English speakers. It implies a school that provides classes in traditional arts only, when the scope of these schools is much wider.

Explanation:
In the States, we have various private schools, community centers, etc., based on learning more about particular etnic groups and cultures, often designed for the children of that particular ethnic group (African-American, Hispanic, Native American, Japanese Saturday Schools, etc.).
I've seen "Cultural Learning Center" a few times, as well as "[Insert Enthnicity] Culture Center" as a common school name, offering classes in traditional arts, self-improvement, parenting, economics, etc.

I agree with cinefil\'s note about Culture Centers, so I would stick with Cultural Learning Center. Another suggestion, also seen but in a slightly different context: Culture Workshop. Can you tell us who will be studying in these schools?

-> Yes, but a name is still a name. You're looking for a nutural and accurate translation, and just because some classes aren't "cultural" (which happens here, too), doesn't make the name change.
