This seems to be a fashionable soup from what I see on the internet, maybe from a tv show that called it that. Could anyone give me some background on this soup and explain why it's called this? In my document, the soup is konbu, water and dashi of asari, with tomato, asparagus and pickled uni in it.

agree  sigmalanguage: They call it so because protein-based taste (kombu, asari, ...) comes from amino acids. Synthesized amino acid products are also available. (アミノ酸スープ sounds a bit odd indeed. I think of a totally different soup--the birthplace of all life on earth :-).)
