Fondata dai Romani intorno al 190 a. C. - come testimonia il significato del suo nome Campus Maior cioè “grande pianura” -, Camaiore è un paese molto bello, ma è anche il punto di partenza per un facile percorso di trekking lungo le pendici delle Alpi Apuane. Seguendo dal paese l’indicazione per Casoli, si prosegue per circa due chilometri fino a Lombrici. Arrivati nello stretto fondovalle, si prende la breve diramazione per il mulino di Candalla, da cui si stacca (in fondo a destra) una mulattiera che sale nel bosco, verso Metato (378-450 metri). Il paese è situato in posizione panoramica, a cavallo tra il Rio dei Colli e il Rio Lombricese: in passato era famoso per le ****cave di breccia***.

Für "breccia" habe ich "Brekzie" bzw. "Breccia" gefunden, mir gelingt es aber leider nicht, das irgendwie in Verbindung mit den "cave" zu bringen, bei denen es sich eigentlich um Steinbrüche handeln müsste.
