Il forte a pianta quadrata, con spessori murari variabili dai dieci metri della base ai cinque della sommità delle cortine, presenta quattro poderosi bastioni angolari di forma lanceolata, uniti alle cortine da originali doppi “orecchioni” che avevano la funzione di incrementare la potenza del fuoco di fiancheggiamento.

Et en terme de fortification, Bastion à orillons, pour dire, Un bastion aux costez duquel il y a des avances, ou espaulements de figure ronde, pour couvrir le canon qui est dans le flanc retiré.
