Le parti di pianta invece danno origine a soggetti perfettamente uguali a quelli da cui sono state prelevate. La semina è largamente impiegata per le più importanti specie da frutto, e in generale per tutte quelle dotate di rapido accrescimento, così da fornire in breve tempo un valido portainnesto; inoltre per quelle specie che hanno difficoltà a emettere radici da porzioni di ramo.

In linea di massima, il franco conferisce vigore e longevità al nesto, ma al contempo ne ritarda la messa a frutto (inizio della produzione) e non si addice per le forme di allevamento ridotte.
