I predatori sono necessari anche perché lasciano sul terreno carcasse che servono alla sopravvivenza di altri commensali, come il coyote, la volpe e l’aquila

These animals are scavengers, and I am thinking of using that term, but it doesn't convey the idea that "commensale" does so beautifully - that of sharing. Also it would alter the sense of the sentence a bit. Any ideas?
