I am unsure as to the correct translation for anticipo as in:

Nell'anticipo del sabato sera, il Milan aveva battuto al «Meazza» per 3-0 il Parma.

and also:

Nell'altro anticipo, l'Udinese ha vinto 3-2 a Siena.


Some of my thoughts are: earlier game/qualifier/game brought foward/game played ahead of..., but I remain unconvinced!

I'm not a big fan of soccer/football, so I don't know if there's a specific expression for it in the U.K. (or the U.S., but I doubt it there), but I'd just call it "Saturday game" in this case.

And are Wednesday games called "anticipi" in Italian? Not that it matters for this particular context.
