tonal level/ tonality hystogram Explanation: a tonal level hystogram indicates/shows that the input device (instrument used for capturing the image/input of the image/scanner) failed to capture all the color tones present in the image/picture. http://www.normankoren.com/digital_tonality.html Reference: http://www.ks.uiuc.edu/Research/vmd/vmd-1.3/ug/node122.html Reference: http://www.sphoto.com/techinfo/histograms/histograms2.htm |

gaps Explanation: If you have an image processing tool like Photoshop, you can see what they mean: the histogram shows how many pixels (y axis) in the image use a certain tone level (x axis). If the image is not well balanced, in the histogram you will see actual "gaps" - i.e. there are no pixels in the image for some tone levels. You can see what these histograms look like in the link below. Reference: http://www.astropix.com/PFA/SAMPLE3/SAMPLE3.HTM |
