Art/Literary - Poetry & Literature / essay on Plutarch\\\'s comments on Hesiod\'s works - Divine retribution and punishment
Italian term or phrase: andrebbe invece arrestato
Context:

Here, I am not sure whether the "arrestato" part means ...."and, instead, should be prevented from carrying out the punishment inflicted by the god"

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

would instead be stopped

Explanation:
sounds like it's the difference between he who hesitates to do evil, and he who instead is only stopped by the immediate punishment inflicted by God. I guess "dal" in your case would be "the god".
