Italian term or phrase: escursione
I'm having difficulty understanding what the speaker is trying to say in the part of the sentence beginning 'Perche'.up to 'normalita' particularly his use of the word 'escursione' . Does it mean something along the lines of 'scope/breadth/range/amplitude'?

Explanation:
I would say your interpretation is correct. I can't see another. It is a line drawn around the limits of normality.

Explanation:
one of many possibilities, but yes, it also means also what you have noted in your question and it is only you who can interpret the meaning according to your comprehension of the text and its context. In a rare exception, as I see it, the cognate "excursion" could also fit if you like.
