Italian term or phrase: pura didascalia
Please note, I know the translation of 'didascalia' but 'caption' here doesn't really work here.... the way I interpret the meaning here is 'without becoming caricatures' Translation is always an interpretation and I will be contacting the client to verify my understanding but would be grateful for any thoughts/ideas. Thanks.

Context: collection of photographs documenting the recent history of an industrial company.

Sentence: ''Le fotografie di XXX oltre che alla dimensione concettuale che è propria della sua formazione – nato a Udine, si è artisticamente formato tra Firenze, New York e Los Angeles nell’ambito della neo avanguardia concettuale - paiono risentire del fenomeno costruttivista sia per le inquadrature che per le prospettive che amplificano i tratti della realtà senza esserne pura didascalia.''

unintelligent pointing out

Explanation:

rather than simply/merely reproducing it

Explanation:
I discovered only today (better late than never :-) that 'didascalico' translates as 'didactic' because both it and 'didascalia' derive from the Greek for 'instruction'
Here's a related statement about documentaries:
In the words of one critic: Documentarists do not simply reproduce reality, but are engaged in processing, heightening and interpreting the real. ... (see link)

agree  Barbara Carrara: My reasoning, exactly, and I agree 'didactic' is not the meaning, here.

plain depiction

Explanation:
The way I read it, the photographer's shots go beyond the mere/sheer/simple representation/description/portrayal/depiction/account/recording of reality. His work offers a wider perspective/angle on reality. The fact that 'amplificano' is used in your text, seems to point in this direction.
Don't know if any of the suggestions I've made sound good in UK EN, though, hence the medium conf. level.
