I know what this is - the mini print that you use to select the photos you want to print full size, etc. (not negatives) - but I have no idea what the normal term for this is in English. Can anybody tell me? Thanks!
Below is the sentence, from an interview with a photographer about the process he employs to create his photographs:

Could this be it? I was familiar with printed "provini" at the time of my wedding, but nowadays everything appears to be digital.
