Because I don't think you will find anything better without making the English look unnatural, and the phrase is virtually redundant anyway. If the register was less formal you could, put "is what I mean", but it looks too impersonal and "serious" for that. |

to be clear Explanation: If you wish to translate it, something like this might work: ..., or, to be clear, like the Greek 'hubris'. I read this as destined for an audience that understands Western philosophical history, and the reference to hubris is intended to clarify the Eastern thought in reference to something analogous and already understood in Western thought. I don't quite agree with "for example", as inherent in that is that Greek hubris is an example or instance of the Eastern thought system being described. It was not; the idea of hubris was a separate development that can serve as a reference to understand the Eastern thought. |
