Italian term or phrase: assorbimento elettrico
Yes, I have checked the archive, and Marolli, and Google... and that's just the problem, because there seem to be a thousand different ways to translate "assorbimento elettrico" and I am unsure which is best in my context, namely a service manual for a cleaning machine where the chapter heading is: "Verificare assorbimento elettrico motori spazzola". Later on, it refers to the "corrente assorbita dei motori". Can anyone help me find my way through the jungle of terms? Thanks for your patience, Sarah.

current draw
Explanation:
This is the way I translate it during my interpretation jobs and I know it's correct.
You can do a quick search through the Internet with current draw and assorbimento di corrente and you'll see there are many references.

An English explanation:
Current Draw indicates the amount of electrical current (measured typically in milliamps or amps) required to safely and effpixelsly power a device.

I'm not that much less confused than before :-(, but having read all the explanations, I think this is the most appropriate translation for my context. Thanks to you all, Sarah.

neutral  Michael Brennen: This phrase means nothing to me re electric motors, and I've been around the terms all my life.

neutral  Mr Murray (X): My various Hoepli's don't actually have 'assorbimento elettrico' as 'electric absorption' and I too really have no idea what it would mean with respect to motors.

Amps absorption / curent absorption

Explanation:
Normalmente un facile modo per controllare il carico, si fa misurando la corrente, perché per misurare la potenza la cosa è più complicata, a meno che non ci siano installati dei wattmetri
