OH, it's 'sprue'. That makes sense - because materòzza can also be 'sprue' in English.

So they have a 'belt' holding liquified material - sprue - that's probably hot or dangerous and needs to be blocked off.

So probably this 'sprue belt' is 'raised' (salita) above the ground.

So, there's the answer ... it's not 'salita tre litri' by itself...it's 'a three-litre raised sprue belt.'

[sprue - material that cools in the feed channels to a mold.]

It's not a sprue belt at all then, it's a riser/feedhead belt as you have defined... slightly out of my depth here... a lesson to be learnt... thanks for your assistance, I am checking it with the client now and as soon as I have a response I will let you all know for future reference and so you can post an answer for points and for glossary.

For me, it's one of two things:

1. There's some type of riser* belt where something is being filled with 3 litres that needs a safety protection barrier.

or

2. 'litres' is a mistake of 'metres' and there is a riser* belt that rises 3 metres that needs a protection barrier.

*materòzza (fond.), feedhead, riser.

... and obvioulsy for reasons of confidentiality I cannot say the name of the Plant which appears in other documents (but again without much context about what they actually do), it is a Chemical plant and the people I am translating about are Process Engineers... does that help at all?

The plexiglas protection is to be installed behind the feeder-belt part of the process...where there is some type of three litre 'addition/increase/filling' taking place. But without knowing the activity or product, it's hard to know what's being added at that point in 3 litres. - It would make more sense - for safety - if there was some type of 3 'metre' rise - not litre rise.

This is the problem with working with agencies when you don't have direct contact to clients! I can query what department it refers to, and perhaps ask them to clarify the entire sentence... I will also tell them "plexiglass" is not correct... Given the second piece I inserted in the discussion, it seems to me they are referring to the closing machine that inserts stoppers in "three litre" flasks, could be wrong, and this three-litre might have something to do with the above, but I'm out of my depth with this one...

Plexiglas is a trademark name and only spelled with one 's' - in both Italian and English.
