Purtroppo è molto comune parlare di bar r. o bar a. (o bara) intendendo bar relativi o bar assoluti; ma è un errore che io ho sempre evitato, per quanto possibile, in quanto il "bar" è una unità di pressione accettata dal sistema SI di misura [anche se sarebbe preferibile usare il Pa (pascal) o il multiplo kPa = 1000 Pa = 10 bar (da cui 1 bar = 100 kPa] e NON ESISTE il bar assoluto o il bar relativo, ma la pressione assoluta o la pressione relativa misurata in bar.
La pressione assoluta = pressione relativa + pressione barometrica.
Se la pressione relativa è 7 bar e la pressione barometrica è 1,01325 bar, la pressione assoluta = 8,101325 bar

La pressione assoluta si usa anche per determinare il rapporto di compressione di un motore, di un compressore, di una soffiante; se la pressione assoluta di aspirazione è 1 bar (= circa la pressione barometrica/atmosferica), la pressione relativa (o manometrica) è 7 bar, la pr. barometrica è 1,01325 bar, il rapporto di compressione è:
(7+1,01325) bar/1 bar = 8,01325
