agree  James (Jim) Davis: And here's the guy who translates from Latin and doesn't like et seq. I mean it goes down so impressively with Italian clients. Why not penal, after all, what is a code in Anglo Saxon law? We should make moves to set standards, not follow trends or whims.

  -> guess it's my lit. education, quoting lines from poems, where it's always ff. Penal also possible (although Criminal more widely used). Codification is typical of 'civil law' systems - but concept understood by English lawyers, even if not applicable
