actually in the link above you'll find "on behalf of." they are said to be interchangeable, but strictly speaking "in behalf of" means "for the benefit of," while "on behalf of" means "as the agent of"

  -> thanks Maryrose. Actually I was aware of the difference as well as of the fact that they are often interchangeably used. I really got confused...I may just have misinterpreted the source.
