Permette di filtrare le unità informative in base a degli intervalli temporali in cui la UI è stata lavorata l'ultima volta.

Si tratta di un programma che gestisce rassegne stampa (le crea, le modifica, etc.), in questo caso sta descrivendo il tipo di filtraggio che si può applicare alle unità informative (che sono i veri e propri dati gestiti dal software).
Io scriverei qualcosa tipo: It allows you to filter the IUs by date of modification, oppure by time range.
Però sono fortemente in dubbio.

You can define searches on particular periods based on when the IUs were last edited.
That is for example you can search on all press releases last edited in say July 2006, which is probably a useful function.

the filter would therefore give a range of values 'from' a certain time 'to a certain time.

This is a 'search' function. If you already knew the date on which it had last been edited, you would be able to locate it straight away; a 'fuzzy ' filter generally allows a range of dates - if you don't know the date the unit was last edited or processed, you wouldn't have a search ability at all.
