This is from one of those standard recitals of rights related to the "trattamento" of personal information on a web site:

"Gli Utenti registrati possono liberamente opporsi al trattamento dei dati personali, finalizzato all'invio delle nostre informative."

This comes as a separate clause, after the recitation of D.Lgs.196/2003, which we're probably pretty familiar with by now.

They've already said that the user has the right to refuse to allow personal information to be used for the sending of advertising and sales materials and/or for market research, so what do they mean by this "finalizzato all'invio delle nostre informative"?

Explanation:
You can probably phrase it better. These people send "informative" information of some kind, reports, newsletters. The context will give a specific translation. These people need personal data, addresses names to send these. "for the purposes of receiving the reports" is much plainer English, but as it is legal stuff, sticking to the letter might be best.

yes I know what is nostre, but the sentence makes more sense as above. Another idea would be " after sending (back) our questionaire--in fact request for data
or after sending back for our information, or sending back to inform us

not to invent new things, just some cannot be translated literally. Concerning the sending (back)-- whatever user is asked firstly to fill in a type of questionnaire--I don't know your text---but also in the ProZ ,one had to provide her/his data in a standardized format-whether we call it questionnaire or not, so the main idea is that you can oppose the use of your personal data only after you have submitted them --or completed sending them; in this sense you may use may last note of "our letter of advice" as an alternative

Asker: Unfortunately, it doesn't. The pronoun is "nostre" not "loro," so it's not "their" informative it's OUR informative. If you have any other ideas, I'd be glad to hear them!

Asker: So the philosophy of translation to follow here is to invent what makes more sense to me, even if that's not what the original says? There is no questionnaire; there is nothing that is being requested of the individual (nothing to "send back"). Thanks just the same.
