I just noticed that my sentence was not posted completely. It should read < usually it is the shop steward employees or workers turn to in situations like the present one. I assume that the meeting in question was convened by the employer with a broad participation of trade unionists.

I went with Union Services Officer. Representatives from the CGIL, CISL and UIL, and in-house amalgamated shop stewards and committee members etc. were already covered. It's obviously another type of union servicve (unions have become very "servicey") and in this case was regional (hence nothing to do with the company per se).

This "servizio" seems to be found both in employer associations, in companies, and also on the other side of the divide as it were. If the guy is paid by the company or by an employers' association, then this is what you want.

Asker: are you saying it's a sort of shop stewards organisation?

my translation should read "Company Trade union representative" as companies have an "in-house" trade union safeguarding workers, (so to say), according to their "trade" or "field" and so "Rappresentanti delle Organizzazioni Sindacali Esterne" would be representatives of other trade unions.
